Introduction to KashmirForum.org Blog

I launched the website and the Blog after having spoken to government officials, political analysts and security experts specializing in South Asian affairs from three continents. The feedback was uniformly consistent. The bottom line is that when Kashmiris are suffering and the world has its own set of priorities, we need to find ways to help each other. We must be realistic, go beyond polemics and demagoguery, and propose innovative ideas that will bring peace, justice and prosperity in all of Jammu and Kashmir.

The author had two reasons to create this blog. First, it was to address the question that was being asked repeatedly, especially, by journalists and other observers in the U.S., U.K., and Canada, inquiring whether the Kashmiri society was concerned about social, cultural and environmental challenges in the valley given that only political upheaval and violence were reported or highlighted by media.

Second, the author has covered the entire spectrum of societal issues and challenges facing Kashmiri people over an 8-year period with the exception of politics given that politics gets all the exposure at the expense of REAL CHALLENGES that will likely result in irreversible degradation in the quality of life and the standard of living for future generations of Kashmiris to come.

The author stopped adding additional material to the Blog once it was felt that most, if not all, concerns, challenges and issues facing the Kashmiri society are cataloged in the Blog. There are over 1900 entries in the Blog and most commentaries include short biographical sketches of authors to bring readers close to the essence of Kashmir. Unfortunately, the 8-year assessment also indicates that neither Kashmiri civil society, nor intellectuals or political leadership have any inclination or enthusiasm in pursuing issues that do not coincide with their vested political agendas. What it means for the future of Kashmiri children and their children is unfathomable. But the evidence is all laid out.

This Blog is a reality check on Kashmir. It is a historical record of how Kashmir lost its way.

From the Heart

Suhail (Suhi) has a small "pillow talk" with his heart not quite comprehending yet his role as a new mamaji even as he tries hard to be a good son

(Mr. Malik Suhail Hassan, 21, son of Mr. malik Ghulam Hassan, was born in Pulwama. He studied upto 10th standard at the MMET Pulwama, and studied 11th and 12th grade at the Government Higher Secondary School in Pulwama. He is currently studying for B. Tech. in Electronics at the Islamic University of Science and Technology located at Avantipora. He recently started writing essays in his leisure time.)

IN THE HEART OF OUR HEART

Allah bestows mankind with an innumerable number of occasions which fills the entire heart of a human being with joy and satisfaction. These lively recollections leave an indelible impression in his heart and mind. Last year after long hard time, on 14 dec., our family was given a moment, moment of happiness, relief & a reason to give azaan when it wasn’t the time for nimaz. Yes, you guessed it right it was the occasion when my sister was blessed with a baby. In less than hour of his birth, this small angel of ours was given his first name by his mother “jigar mueon”. A day passed & he became the heart of our whole family. Now each day that we spend with our heart fills every corner of our home with the everlasting aroma of prosperousness. Now our heart Is more than a year old. Last day when I was as usual playing with him, a question knocked at my brain “what will be IN THE HEART OF OUR HEART?”.This question revolved in my brain like a spinning top, giving me no answer. I could have asked this question to our heart but you know he is only a year old & is able to answer everything in words like hmmm-hmmm, taaa-taaa & his all time favorite crying words waain-waain.

Then it was as usual my papa who came to my rescue & said “ why don’t you become our heart for some time & get the answer of your question” but I think this time papa’s answer was as good as Brett lee bowling a bouncer to amar singh. So, I reached for a pillow placed near-by & laid down my head on it. I started to collect some memories of my childhood & found myself in the time when I was about to be 2 years old (thanks to Raaz Pechlay Janam Kay) that really helped me to complete this distance of more than 18years in less than 18 seconds of time.

Now my heart started to answer my question...

Hello dear! How are you? You know last day, shahrukh liver & ambani kidneys had a fight over the sponsorship of shiv-sena & Uttar Pradesh friendship cricket match & later match referee lalit stomach banned both the tickets for two IPL matches to be played at sharad kotla stadium.

I said hello Mr. Heart stop commentary & give me the answer. He now started...

I want my family always to be around me & do that mad actions of making faces, laughing without reasons to make me happy all the day. I want you to kiss my cheeks both in joy & sorrow but do use lip guard before doing that. Tell mama to get some soft huggies for me as the one I wear are as good as dams built with Ambuja cement. What! Ambuja cement, who told you about it. Later on I found that he knows almost about every ad shown on star plus & zee TV (all credit goes to his mama).Tell daddy not to get angry with my suuu-suuu, it just happens on its own without any time-table or search for a suitable place. Also tell baday mamuu not to play with me all the time as I get bored with him (actually his exams are coming & papa thinks that I am wasting his time).

In the next moment I saw sadness surrounding the heart slowly. I said” what happened are you alright”.will mama always love me this much? .I said “yes yes, always”. He started again … “will you people be always around me, making me happy? Will you always take me in your lap & make me cross the every hurdle that will come in my life? Will you always stop me, if my feet crawl towards the wrong path or the wrong thing? Will you always wipe my tears, if I cried? Will you be always there to make me eat food, if at first I refused to? Will you be always there to make me happy, even if you are crying? & will you be always able to make me follow the words that were first listened by me in those beautiful words of azaan? Will you …! Will you….! Will you…!

I was having no answers for his questions; still I gathered up some courage & told him. Listen…..!!!!!!

Utho-utho, these words from my father striked my ears like atom bombs & I woke up from sleep without answering the heart of our heart.
